Subspecialty interests: Corneal and External Eye Diseases, Cataract and Glaucoma Imran Rahman graduated with merits from University College Hospital Medical School in 1998. He achieved a high level of academic and clinical success, including the Sir Thomas Lewis Prize for Cardiology and a merit for outstanding performance in clinical finals. He achieved his certification of core ophthalmic training at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital following a 7 year training programme. He then undertook an internationally renowned fellowship in corneal diseases, contact lenses and external eye diseases under Professor Harminder Dua at the University of Nottingham. This fellowship supplemented his advanced training in glaucoma and the surgical management of glaucoma at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
Mr Rahman was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital in 2009 where he has been leading the corneal service. He was appointed in Blackpool to develop and lead a specialist corneal service, and is able to provide all current state of the art treatments and techniques for the management of corneal and external eye disease. These include the latest corneal transplant techniques including anterior lamellar transplants (DALK), endothelial transplants (DSEK) and full thickness transplantation (PK), keratoconus treatments including cross-linking and INTACS, and recurrent corneal erosion syndrome treatments
Mr Rahman has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers in international ophthalmology journals, presented papers at national and international conferences, and is a guest reviewer for several ophthalmic journals. He is affiliated to the following institutions:

Mr Rahman's future aims are to introduce advanced and newly developed procedures and techniques to his practice in order to provide better and safer visual outcomes for his patients. His most recent practice development is the introduction of the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) for patients undergoing cataract and refractive surgery. He was the second surgeon in the U.K. to offer this procedure. The outcomes he is achieving with the Light Adjustable Lens are predictable and offer the majority of his patients freedom from reliance on spectacles. The conditions Mr Rahman specialises in include: keratoconus, dry eyes, recurrent corneal erosion syndrome, pterygium, corneal dystrophies and watery eyes. His in depth knowledge of the surface of the eye allows a systematic approach to the relief of the symptoms of dry eye, giving a high rate of success.
Mr Rahman offers standard and complex micro-incisional cataract surgery including the new Light Adjustable Lens, together with specialist knowledge and skills in corneal surgery, including corneal transplantation and collagen cross-linking, refractive surgery, and glaucoma surgery.
