Socket Problems
Patients with artificial eyes
Face & Eye surgeons are at the forefront of the major advances which have been made in this challenging field. The use of materials such as hydroxyapatite (a natural coral) and modern surgical techniques mean that artificial eyes can be made to look more natural than ever before, often with good movement.
The benefits of using hydroxyapatite include;
- A much lower risk of extrusion (rejection) once the implant has been accepted by the body and has a blood supply.
- A reduced risk of movement of the implant into an abnormal position within the socket.
- Better movement of the artificial eye particularly in those patients who receive a motility peg.
And, in the hands of our highly experienced Face & Eye surgeons, there is a very low risk of implant complications after the operation
