Photofacials using the latest Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology
![]() |
Photorejuvenation using photofacial treatments are pulses of visible white light used to improve facial redness and flushing as well as the visible signs of sun damage and ageing. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-laser light that is delivered by a series of gentle pulses to the skin. Settings are selected for each treatment and a series of up to five treatments are performed at 3 to 4 week intervals.
Photofacials are beneficial because they:
- Are consistent, visible improvements in the skin with very fast recovery and little discomfort
- Effectively reduce redness and flushing
- Remove fine veins, thread veins and broken capillaries
- Reduce irregular pigmentation, freckling and sun spots
- Provide smoother skin, reduce pore size, and fine wrinkling
- Clear the overall redness, flushing and dilated capillaries associated with Rosacea
- Have minimal downtime – a classic “lunchtime” treatment
What areas can be treated?
- On any part of the skin.
- They are especially effective for improving the appearance of the face, neck, chest and back of hands.
What result can I expect?
- A gradual decrease in overall redness, flushing and dilated capillaries.
- Skin with visible ageing from the sun can become smoother with a decrease in fine wrinkles, reduction in pore size and fading of sun spots.
- Many people with Rosacea see an improvement in breakouts and are able to decrease or discontinue their medication.
- Medical trials show that collagen fibres and remodelling cells are significantly increased
What are treatments like?
- Each treatment takes about 20 minutes.
- A mild amount of discomfort can be expected during treatment but this quickly subsides.
- Immediately after treatment, the skin may appear red and flushed and tiny capillaries and brown spots may appear darker but this can be concealed with makeup.
- All of these changes gradually fade over a period of hours to a few days.
- Treatments are ideally 3-5 in number approximately 4 weeks apart.
Avoiding sun exposure and tanning including fake tan prior to treatment is essential
What aftercare is needed?
- Your clinician may recommend a facial cooling mask. This is applied to the face immediately after treatment. The mask significantly helps to cool the skin and to lessen after effects.
- We also recommend advanced skin care products to compliment your photo rejuvenation treatment. These have been carefully selected to maximise the medical improvements that you will see in your skin with photorejeuvenation
How soon will I see results?
- After your first treatment your skin will feel smoother and will have a more even tone.
- Improvements are gradual and will be more visible after each treatment.
- Between three to five treatments are performed for optimum results. Some patients will benefit from additional treatments.
